Library Management Suggestion

Postby ByteMe » 08 May 2017, 23:19

Hello

When using code from web sites it is quite common to find that we do not have one or more #include<library.h> installed in the IDE. When we go to the IDE Library Management function we find that there are a myriad of library names but that they do not reflect the name of the particular :"library_name.h" that we need to install. This makes it a difficult and time consuming task to locate and install the particular library that is needed.

SUGGESTION 1:
Maybe it would help if the l;library names shown in Library Management were the actual names of the "include.h" library that is contained in each entry.

SUGGESTION 2:
It might be useful if there were an additional Library Management function for listing all installed libraries.. That could help us know which of the many available libraries we have already installed. Might also be interesting to know the date for those libraries, and it there is a newer version in the library repository. Yes, I realize that the liberary manager does show "INSTALLED" if we scroll down through all the library listings, but without knowing the actual library_name.h that is associated with each INSTALLED label this information is relatively useless. I am also aware that we can use our system file manager to view ~/sketchbook/libraries to see the list of installed libraries, but this is not a built-in function of the IDE.

Thank you for your consideration

Hi,
thanks for your reporting.

Suggestion 1: usually the library name is the same than in Library Manager. Some libraries are third-party and the choice of names doesn't depend from Arduino.
Suggestion 2: into the Library Manager is possible to look the library installed and clicking on a library is possible to select the version and/or to update it.

Regards.
